The American Music Awards (AMA) is around the corner and the nominees for the 2022 edition have been announced. The show is set to hold on Sunday, the 20th November, 2022 at the Microsoft Theater Los Angeles.
The award show updated their list of award categories, hence having Favorite Rock Album, Favorite Afrobeats Artist, Favorite Rock Song and Favorite K-pop Artist on the list of categories.
The first set of Nigerians to be nominated under the new category (Favorite Afrobeat Artist) are Burna Boy, Wizkid, CKay, Tems and Fireboy, to couple that, Wizkid bags another nomination under the Favorite R&B Song for Essence while Tems leads all of them with four nominations under four categories- Collaboration of the Year for Future ft. Drake & Tems – “WAIT FOR U”, Favorite R&B Song for Wizkid ft. Tems – “Essence”, Rap song of the year for ‘Wait For U’ and Favorite Afrobeat Artist of the Year.
Although this isn’t the first time Wizkid is being nominated for the American Based Award, in 2016, the singer bagged a total of three nominations with the hit collaboration ‘One Dance’ with Drake, the artist just keep setting the bar high.
Fireboy is the only A-List New Generation artist to be on the nomination list; 30BG fans are not so pleased that Davido didn’t make it into any category.
