Rema’s “Calm Down” makes history on the US billboard Hot 100

Nigeria’s afrobeat star Rema just recently made history with the remix of his song “Calm Down,” featuring US superstar Selena Gomez. The song has peaked at number 8 on the Billboard Top 100, surpassing WizKids ft. Tem’s “Essence,” which peaked at number 9.  This makes it the first Nigerian song to reach that height.

Rema made his first entry into the Billboard Top 100 chart with the hit single “Calm Down” last February, and his entry was in the 74th spot.  The remix of this song with Selena came around August 2022, and the video came up in September 2022. Ever since then, the song has gained even more worldwide recognition and has been played on so many stages around the world.

The “Calm Down” song has achieved a lot of other heights. It has become the first afrobeat song to hit 400 million views on YouTube. The song has received about 13 certifications, including a platinum certification in the US and a diamond certification in France.

Last year, the song was also heard playing in the Qatar stadium during the World Cup. Rema reposted the video on Twitter and showed his appreciation by saying, “I woke up grateful. Afrobeats.”
